The Battle of Mortimers Cross

Original painting by GrahamTurner

Graham Turner's latest painting shows the Lancastrian Owen Tudor and his remaining men as they find themselves fighting for their lives against the advancing Yorkists, victory within their grasp. Edward Earl of March's standard is in the thick of the fighting, along with the banners of Sir William Herbert, who would go on to be Edward's trusted lieutenant in the region and Sir Walter Devereux. Facing them can be seen the banners of Jasper Tudor, Earl of Pembroke, and the Earl of Wiltshire, who brought Irish, French and Breton mercenaries to fight alongside Pembroke's largely Welsh army.

Re-release date TBA

The search for the true location of the battlefield continues. It involves field investigation and pouring through many local archive records. This involves many volunteers led by Dr Glenn Foard of Huddersfield University, and Dr Tracey Partida, Landscape Archaeologist. If you would like to be a volunteer, please get in touch.

The project attends as many events as possible to spread the word, educate and enlist more volunteers.  However, during the pandemic lockdown,  all scheduled events are on hold.

Check with the EVENTS PAGE for any further updates.
